Create & Take
Walk in during business hours to sculpt with high-quality air dry clay.
No reservations needed!
Have an idea?
Visit the studio anytime during open business hours for walk-in creating with clay. Enjoy our beautiful plant-filled studio space and be an artist for the day! Grab a coffee from next door and settle in. Give yourself time to explore, make mistakes, and experiment without pressure. Let this activity be a creative ritual that brings back your childlike sense of wonder and exploration... and leave all the cleaning to us.
For $30 per person, this is an open-ended, self-directed clay session where you can work at your own pace. This unstructured time is ideal for all ages and skill levels- no experience needed. The price includes 1 pound of high-quality air-dry clay to use however you wish, as well as use of a studio tool kit with everything you need to get creative. Come ready with your own ideas, or browse our idea board for inspiration.
Once your project is complete, you will be able to take your piece home with you once you leave the studio. Once it’s dried completely (around 24-48 hours depending on the thickness of the piece), you can paint your piece at home. We recommend using acrylic paints, which are available at any craft store or at the studio for an additional $5. If you'd like to seal your piece and give it a shiny & strong finish, we recommend a spray shellac which you can find at any home improvement store.
Please note that due to the nature of the clay and paint used, these projects will not be food-safe unless you use a specific food-safe shellac to seal your project.
Create & Take FAQs
How much does it cost?
Walk-in clay creating costs $30 per person, and includes everything you need to get sculpting- clay, a set of tools to use during your time in the studio, and access to our inspiration board. There is no limit to your studio time, as long as you wrap up your project before close.
Do I need to reserve a table?
Reservations are not required for groups of 5 or under. Just visit our studio during opening hours and get creating! If you would like to bring in a group of more than 5 people, give us a call or send us an email!
What can I make?
You have the creative freedom to make almost anything with our air dry clay! Some popular ideas include jewelry dishes, photo holders, animals, mini game boards, pencil cups, flower frogs, candle holders, ornaments, wall hangings, favorite Pokémon characters, seasonal creations like pumpkins and ghosts, small luminaries, gnomes, and magnets. The possibilities are endless- let your imagination lead the way!
Will an instructor be able to help me with my project?
While our studio staff can assist with quick questions and technique advice, please keep in mind that this activity is mostly self-directed, and our staff will also be helping other customers or teaching classes during this time. If you're interested in a guided class with full instruction, check out the other workshops we offer!
When can I take my piece home?
You can take your piece home as soon as you're done! Because you'll be using air dry clay and painting it at home once it's dry, your piece does not need to be fired in the kiln.
Can I bring my own food/drink?
Yes! Bring your own snacks and drinks - or even better, get food or coffee from one of our neighboring downtown restaurants! Please keep in mind that greasy fingers can leave residue on your clay, so be cautious!
Is there a minimum age requirement?
If your little one can keep the clay out of their mouth, they can come create! In our experience, any younger than 2 years old gets tricky. Our studio is family-friendly, including a high chair and changing table, which are all available for those who need them!
